COVID-19 TRAVEL UPDATE
How to Plan for Your Next Travel Adventure (After Covid-19) by Shalu Sharma…….
Eager to Fly High & Wana Touch the Sky………
While the majority of us are currently being forced to stay at home in lock down, and many of us have had to cancel our vacations and/or reschedule, so it’s no surprise that we’re feeling a bit blue. However, it’s been proven that planning for the future can boost your mood by a significant amount.
What’s more, a recent study found that almost one-quarter of people are currently looking for places to travel to once the restrictions have been lifted. We think this sounds like a grand idea, so have put together of things to keep in mind as you plan for your next travel adventure after Covid-19.
WEB CHECK IN MUST FOR EVERY CUSTOMER.
It is mandatory to do web check-in prior to 60 minutes before departure time and please follow all guidelines from respected Airlines and Airports before traveling in this Pandemic.
Assess Your Risk Tolerance
Speak to any travel experts, and they’ll tell you that the travel industry will rebound from the pandemic quickly; certainly far quicker than most people currently expect. Despite the challenges currently faced by airlines and cruise companies, it won’t be this way forever. Industry experts like John Lovell, president of the Travel Leaders Group, have pointed out that the travel industry has rebounded quickly from other pandemics, and also from national disasters. While assessing your risk tolerance level is important before booking a trip, we should see some amazing deals to destinations all over the world once this is over. Just make sure to plan smart and take reasonable precautions.
Focus on Value
It’s likely that there will be a lot of tempting travel deals available once the pandemic is over, but experts suggest looking for those that offer value as opposed to cheap prices. Deals that come with packaged flights and meals included are going to offer much more than a cheap airline ticket. It’s also best to opt for packages with travel operators that you know and trust. Sales that sound too-good-to-be-true could be coming from those trying to stave off bankruptcy, which could lead to more problems in your future. Financially stable, well-known brands are those you want to travel with.
Purchase Travel Insurance
Finally, travel insurance is important anyway, but it’s going to be even more critical in the aftermath of Covid-19. A reputable travel insurance policy will cover you if the provider you purchase a trip from goes out of business, or if you need to return home due to something outside of your control. It’s recommended to purchase both your travel insurance and your trip on a credit card, too, if you have one for an added level of protection.
Support small responsible travel businesses virtually
As you can probably imagine, this is one of the worst times for the travel industry. March, otherwise peak travel season for many places around the world, has been a month of cancellations. April might go the same way, though I really hope not. Small business owners, family-run home stays, social enterprises and responsible tourism businesses will be some of the worst hit this year.
All travel advice for corona-virus suggests we can’t physically travel this month to support them or the work they do for local communities and environment conservation. But small gestures can go a long way. Leave them a heartfelt review on Google Reviews / TripAdvisor. Mention them on Instagram / Twitter. Recommend them to family and friends for future trips. When the corona-virus pandemic is behind us, they’ll need our tourism money the most. Let’s make sure they’re found, remembered and supported then!
10 point checklist before booking your next domestic flight
Govt of India has indicated that domestic flights may begin from May 25th in a staggered manner. While more details on this order and airline’s plan to resume domestic flight is yet to emerge, if you are looking to book a flight, then there are several things you should be considering,
Here’s 10 point checklist you should worry about before booking a flight.
- Schedule: Will there be flights between origin and destination you wish to travel? Given that reopening will be in phases, you need to be doubly sure that cities you have to go is being served and probability of flights being cancelled again is very low. Government can go back on its word or introduce new restrictions any time, so some level of assurance is better before spending 10-20k on a ticket. Spice jet for example is accepting bookings even for May 22nd, full 3 days prior to Govt suggested May 25th. Will they operate the flight, will you get refund, no one knows- they are desperate for any cash.
- ePass requirements: Would you need a pass from home state and destination state? What will be the validity of such pass- Get ticket first and then apply for pass or apply for a pass and then get a ticket?
- Quarantine Rules: Will there be a mandatory institutional quarantine upon arrival? Where? In arrival city or close to your final destination? What would be the cost of such quarantine (paid ones). Would your neighbors/colleagues be scared of you after your travel?
- Last mile connectivity: How to reach your home from airport- Will there be buses/auto/taxi? What would be the cost of such transport? Have to factor flight timings and local curfews also (example if flight is at 8 AM but you need to reach airport by 5 AM while there’s curfew till 7 AM in the city, what to do? Will there be exemptions)?
- Ticket Refund rules: What would happen to your ticket money if you develop some symptoms between now and travel date? Would you qualify for refund/free reschedule? Don’t worry we try to refund whole amount or after deduction our charges, if airline refunded the whole amount back to us.
- Risk profile: What are the chances of catching infection during the journey? Do you want to desperately take that chance? Do you have good immunity?
- Preparing for the new normal: Do you have everything airline is asking you to bring? Almost all airlines will make it mandatory for passengers to bring their own masks. You may be asked to bring your own food etc. Chennai airport is not providing any trolleys now, so many other changes are being formulated.
- Your plan B: Say you manage to reach the destination but not able to get a return flight, or your flight is cancelled for some reasons on the day of departure, or say one person is found positive so everyone on the flight is sent to isolation ward- are you prepared for these eventualities?
- Ticket Price: Ticket prices are very likely to be high during initial days as airlines anticipate high demand. You’ve to decide if you have to pay this high price or wait for a week for tickets to get cheaper or try other alternatives such as train or postpone your journey for a while.
- Airline’s financial health: If you’re booking for a travel date several weeks from now and the airline is known to be have severe financial crisis, you might lose all your money if airline goes bankrupt before your travel date.
